Posted on 22. Nov, 2007 by in Uncategorized

On todays What’s Next you will meet Bob Young, one of the pioneers of open source. Bob Young is the founder of Red Hat, the first company to strike gold in the open source community.

Bob Young has today left Red Hat and now runs lulu.com, a print on demand book publishing company.

In this talk with Tomas Wennstrom, Bob Young speaks about:

  • how Red Hat got started,
  • how to make money on open source code,
  • his view on Google’s open sourced mobile os Android,
  • why Microsoft will not sue the linux community over alleged patent infringements and
  • his admiration for IKEA’s founder Ingvar Kamprad.

Throughout the interview Bob Young give loads of advice to entrepreneurs.

I can highly recommend reading Bob Young’s 10-page paper Giving it Away if you want to know more about his thoughts on making money on free software.

If you are curios of who else is listening to What’s Next, subscribe to What’s Next facebook group.

I apologize for the Skype-recording getting slightly out of sync at the end.

Interesting discussion from Young. His understanding of creating customer centric companies is admirable! Likes what he says about the terror balance of patents and Microsoft.
